Perfect Timing

At 16 I was depressed and suicidal. I probably wouldn't be here without albums like NIN's Still. "Leaving Hope" is, to this day, a piano riff I play when I sit at any new piano/keyboard to test how it feels and sounds.

I digress, but at 16 my parents bought be a used upright piano to try and snap me out of that depression. It – in and of itself – didn't fix the whole situation, but now I could try and learn how to play these songs from Still. My ears still very immature, I learned every song I could find sheet music for.

Fast-foward another lifetime to 2021. I'm living alone for the first time in ~12 years. My piano is still at my parents' house. I'd been seeing a woman, Amanda, for almost a year. She understands how much that piano means to me. As a Christmas surprise, she has the piano moved from my parents' house to my house.

"NO WAYYYYY!"

Nine months later and we moved into a new house together. My old piano made another trek, despite the new house including a grand piano. Two months after that we were engaged.

As we started planning the wedding, we had decided to hire a band to play. I got the idea to compose a piece of music that Amanda could walk down the aisle to, so I started writing. We were married on 9/23/2023. Danny of DZ Combo performed it for our ceremony.

This recording is an electronic adaptation of that composition. I went for more of a slow-dance tempo than a processional. Everything you hear is from the Digitone.

Maybe a piano recording of the original... some day...
