What to do? or.. the perfectionist in me.

I haven't had much time to jam/write lately. Running a successful freelance operation on top of a 9-5 doesn't leave me much time in general, but it's been especially busy lately.

I last wrote in April. Since then I have picked up a new guitar... a Schecter Kenny Hickey C-1 EX S signature model (pictured above) that I bought in Chicago. Read the article I wrote to learn about how fate forced me to buy it.

I've got probably 20 songs partially completed, but by the time I've got the opportunity get vocal melodies written and recorded I've just been writing more riffs. I should publish more partial idea on this site, but even that's time consuming when you're a perfectionist.

It seems I'm incapable of calling a song "done". I tell myself that they're only demoes on the journey to something more concrete, which turns out to be a double-edged sword preventing any motivation to finish anything at all.

Bands are hard to put together when you're so busy. A wife and four kids, two jobs, other hobbies... potential bandmates with kids. The music matters less, and therefore receives less time. But I crave to perform again.

More shows are occuring at non-traditional venues, often open to all ages: record stores, skate parks, art galleries. Solo acts aren't as unique as they used to be. High schoolers are forming bands again.

Back to Chicago on September 2nd with Kurt to see Down. Crazy to think I was FOURTEEN years old the first time I saw Down (at Ozzfest 2002). Those first two albums RIP, espcially pumped to see them play Bury Me In Smoke again.

Back to Chicago again a couple weeks later for the Russian Circles/Pelican hometown show at Bohemian National Cemetery, which seems like a crazy place to have a show and I'm very intrigued to see how it'll go down. Bryce is flying in from Denver and Mathias and I are meeting him at the airport.

I don't plan on buying any more guitars, but I didn't plan to buy one last time either...
